After a close game, the Dolphins lost in the last few seconds of the game. Both sides played very well and hard despite the heat. Even with home-field advantage, humid weather and the sun shining bright the whole game, the Dolphins were helpless to watch a formerly-assured victory slip away. No one can say the Dolphins did not do their best, but it can be agreed that their loss was due to several small mistakes.

The sacking of Aaron Rodgers was essential to this game. If the Dolphins had not stopped him at all this game, things would have ended a lot differently. With only two sacks, it propelled the team forward and kept the score close until the last second. While the number of sacks is low, Rodgers was under pressure by the defense all game, giving the Dolphins an edge most of the second half.

Ryan Tannehill has to be the cleverest quarterback in the league. Several times against the Green Bay Packers, he used his peripheral vision to make a throw instead of looking in the direction he wanted to go. His skill seemed to work better in the second half, throwing the Packers off. If Tannehill can perfect this talent, he could become one of the most successful quarterbacks the Dolphins have ever seen.

Even though the Dolphins lost, their positioning took command of the field. They used the positions of both defense and offense to confuse the Packers, and redirect them to another location on the field. Moving the defense around after the snap gave them plenty of openings, and their impressive teamwork forced the Packers to work twice as hard. In the sweltering heat that the Packers are not used to, the Dolphins ran circles around them.

The Dolphins’ defense was the backbone of the second half, stopping the Packers’ offense swiftly and solidly, while forcing the Packers to rush the throws in the pocket. The confident calls the coordinators made for the Dolphins confounded the Packers, and Miami used the frustration to their advantage. For a moment, the Dolphins had the win, but the tactics they employed against the Packers were turned around and reflected back.

While the loss of the ball did not result in any points for the Packers, keeping the ball in the first half would have been beneficial to the Dolphins. With the ball being intercepted first by Casey Hayward and again by Sam Shields, the Dolphins seemed to lose heart. While the Dolphins came back in a big way, the fumble at the end of the game, recovered by Julius Peppers, was the final nail in the coffin.
