Jay Cutler, Defense Saves Chicago Bears’ Season
In a game where both teams needed a victory to salvage any playoff hopes, the Chicago Bears beat the Atlanta Falcons 27-13. The game was expected to be a shootout. Let it be known that all but 16 points were scored in the second half.
The Bears now move to 3-3 on the season and sit third place in the NFC North. The Falcons drop to 2-4. The win was highly sought after, especially when one looks at the predicament the loser would be in heading into Week 7. The Falcons will now sit at third in the NFC South.
Jay Cutler had an MVP-caliber game. He recorded 381 yards and a touchdown. More importantly, he did not throw an interception. In 2014, when Cutler does not throw a pick, the Bears are 3-0. That is the exact recipe for success. Control the ball on offense and play aggressively on defense.
That defense was without their three starting linebackers in Shea McClellin, Lance Briggs and D.J. Williams. Second-year outside linebacker Khaseem Greene led the team in tackles. The whole defense came to play. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was held relatively in check at 271 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
The Bears now pack up and prepare for a game with the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. The Dolphins may be in Bears fans’ dog house. They allowed the Green Bay Packers to score in the waning seconds of the game. A Miami win would have put the Bears in a tie for second place in the division.
