Jon Gruden occasionally does color commentary on some of his former players. There are fewer and fewer Gruden players in the league with each passing year, but some still remain. Believe or not, Chucky has not coached an NFL game since the 2008 season.
One of Gruden’s former players, Phil Dawson, kicked a 54-yard FG during the Week 6 edition of MNF. The kick prompted a confession from the ex-coach:
Line of the night from Gruden on Phil Dawson after he makes 54yd FG: “Can you believe I cut that guy? I need to get my head examined.”

Mike Tirico quickly agreed that, yes, Gruden does need his head examined for more reasons than cutting Dawson. Jokingly, of course.
In addition to the Dawson admission, Gruden also compared St. Louis Rams‘ QB Austin Davis to Drew Brees. While Davis has shown promise this season, it may be a little too soon to compare him to the veteran All-Pro…
Gruden repeats his Drew Brees line and calls Tirico “Mark.” Maybe he does need his head examined.
