The New York Jets will be playing on Thursday Night Football against their biggest rival, the New England Patriots. The Jets currently are sitting at a disastrous 1-5 record with the blame flying all around the organization, but even with all the rumors and troubles flying around the team and front office, there will be a game to play. Jets fans would be able to get the sour taste out of their mouths from the awful start if their team can find a way to upset the Patriots; but in order for that to happen, they will need a lot to go right.
It’s no secret Rex Ryan usually has a good game-plan against Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offense, but this year Ryan’s defense is nowhere close to the level it usually is. With the Jets’ defense struggling right now with one of the worst secondaries in football, it will be the Jets’ offense — and mostly the running game — that will have to be great to win this game.
Chris Ivory has emerged as the lead back without a doubt for the Jets this season, and against the Patriots, he will need to step up. Ivory is having a nice season once again for the Jets, as he is averaging 4.9 yards per carry, and has 325 yards this season. The biggest thing for Ivory and the Jets’ offense is that Ivory needs to touch the ball more.
New England’s defense will be without linebacker Jerod Mayo for the remainder of the season, which will greatly hurt the Patriots’ run defense, and the Jets must look to exploit that with Ivory. Not only is running the ball the best attribute on offense, but it will in turn help keep Brady and the Patriots’ offense from being on the field.
