Ranking the Top 15 NFL RBs After Week 6

We're a little over a third of the way through the season, and there have been plenty of surprises when it comes to who is performing well and who isn't performing well at the running back position. It's a position that is often underutilized in today's pass-happy league. Without further to do, here are my power rankings for the top 15 NFL running backs following Week 6.

15. Chris Ivory

Chris Ivory is never going to an elite back in the NFL, but he certainly gets the job done. Ivory has tallied 325 yards through six games this year with a 4.9 yards per carry average. He's one of the few consistent producers on a New York Jets team that has struggled to score points this season.

14. Lamar Miller

A third-year player playing for his hometown Miami Dolphins, Lamar Miller is enjoying his best season as a pro. A Knowshon Moreno injury has forced the Dolphins to lean on Miller more, and he has performed well, including a 108-yard performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in September. He'll look to build on his solid year going forward.

13. Jamaal Charles

After rushing for over 1,000 yards in in four of the past five seasons, Jamaal Charles finds himself a victim of underutilization this year -- he has only amassed 42 carries in four games played. Charles is coming off an injury, but he has had a solid impact on the past two games for the Kansas City Chiefs. He should be back to his old ways soon enough.

12. Eddie Lacy

Talk about a bruising running back. Eddie Lacy relishes contact and would rather go through defenders than around them. Lacy's 3.8 yards per carry average isn't anything to write home about, but those are tough yards that he's earned behind a shaky Green Bay Packers line. He gives the Packers a more balanced attack so that Aaron Rodgers can be more effective.

11. Frank Gore

While he may be on the wrong side of 30, Frank Gore still is the leading force for the San Francisco 49ers' offense. The 49ers are deliberately limiting Gore's carries, but he already has 403 yards through only six games thanks to his 4.3 yards per carry average. The Niners' offense is at its best when Gore is effective.

10. Alfred Morris

Despite his team's 1-5 start, Alfred Morris continues to be one of the bright young stars in this league. His 386 yards are good enough for ninth in the league and he's also scored three times. With Robert Griffin III out with yet another injury, Morris is one of the top weapons for the Washington Redskins.

9. LeSean McCoy

After he won the rushing title last season, LeSean McCoy has gotten off to a slow start to his 2014 campaign. While he's the NFL's fourth leading rusher, his carries have not been nearly as effective this year as they were last year, only averaging 3.6 yards per carry and only one touchdown. However, McCoy had a stellar performance against the New York Giants this week with 22 carries for 149 yards, so he may be turning a corner.

8. Justin Forsett

In the wake of the Ray Rice scandal, no one really knew who was going to fill his void at running back for the Baltimore Ravens. Enter Justin Forsett, a 28-year-old veteran who has come in and completely taken the reigns of the Ravens' rushing attack. His 6.4 yards per carry on only 64 carries puts him at 408 yards already. Forsett is well on his way to his first 1,000-yard season.

7. Rashad Jennings

Rashad Jennings is off to a good start with his new team as the feature back for the New York Giants. Unfortunately, he sprained his knee in Week 5 and could miss the next few weeks. Nonetheless, Jennings has been a top 10 back throughout 2014 so far, so the Giants should expect the same from him once he comes back.

6. Giovani Bernard

A talented young running back, Giovani Bernard is having a great sophomore season for the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are off to a 3-1-1 start, and Bernard is a big reason why they are having success. He should continue to mature as the year goes on, as Bernard's best football is ahead of him.

5. Matt Forte

While he's one of the leading rushers this year, it's Matt Forte's ability to impact the Chicago Bears' passing game that makes him so valuable. He has 399 yards rushing and another 376 yards receiving in 2014. With a gunslinger in Jay Cutler, Forte should continue to put up big numbers this season.

4. Marshawn Lynch

Another victim of under-utilization, Marshawn Lynch has not been able to put up the kind of numbers we would expect from Beast Mode. The Seattle Seahawks are a run-first team and they are at their best when Lynch has the ball, but they have struggled to establish the eighth-year back because of a lack of time of possession. He has six touchdowns already, but Lynch has the capability of being the best back if he gets his proper touches.

3. Le'Veon Bell

Only 22, Le'Veon Bell probably has the most upside of any running back in the NFL right now. His 542 yards are good enough for second in the league. Bell is the complete package, as he is big and strong, but has the agility and vision to make people miss. Not only that, but he's also a receiving threat out of the backfield. The Pittsburgh Steelers have to be fired up with their second-year player's performance.

2. Arian Foster

Arian Foster seems to be back to his old self. Foster is the third leading rusher in the league, and he's posted four 100-yard games out of the five that he's played in. He also has five touchdowns to add to the resume. Foster looks like he'll be battling for the rushing title in 2014.

1. DeMarco Murray

The Dallas Cowboys are 5-1, and there is no doubt that DeMarco is the reason why. Murray leads the NFL in rushing and has rushed for over 100 yards in every game so far. With the Cowboys recommitting to the running game, he will be a big part of whether their success continue or not. Through six weeks, he is the MVP.
