Robert Griffin III has been a polarizing figure ever since the young man won the Heisman trophy back at Baylor University, and he then went on to win Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Washington Redskins. He has drawn criticism for his style of play, especially after all of his injury issues the last two seasons. You might think you know RGIII, but here are five tidbits you may have missed.

You might not have seen the promotion earlier this year, but Griffin had his own superhero comic book made by Gatorade and was featured on select bottles of the product. A copy of this book resides on my desk, and I hope to have it signed by him one day.

Like many in our generation, RGIII wanted to "Be Like Mike" when he was growing up until the football culture of Texas ultimately grabbed at his heartstrings. He was also a Gatorade Texas Athlete of the Year in Track and Field.

This is a smart dude. He had great grades in high school and was elected class president by his peers. You could tell from quite an early age that Griffin was a natural leader, and this is one of the reasons he makes such a great quarterback and locker room presence.

Many thought Griffin left college early for the pros, but those folks neglected to notice that the quarterback actually graduated in three years and had even begun working on a master's degree in communication. Again, this is a smart dude.
