The Denver Broncos are all of a sudden in for quite a matchup when they take on the surging San Francisco 49ers –who’ve won three straight games — at home this coming Sunday night. The one player who has to have a big game in order for Denver to win is quarterback Peyton Manning.

Not only do the Broncos need a win to keep pace within the AFC West with the 5-1 San Diego Chargers, but Manning only needs three more touchdown passes to move past Brett Favre and become the record holder for the most career touchdown passes in NFL history.

Manning will be facing a 49ers defense that’s ranked 19th in the NFL in sacks, which makes sense given all of the injuries they’re dealing with on that side of the ball. But he’ll be going against a defensive unit that’s ranked 5th in the NFL in interceptions and 2nd in pass defense.

Manning better hope the Broncos’ offensive line is ready to get physical, because guys like 49ers defensive end Justin Smith are monsters along the line of scrimmage. The one way to beat Denver is to be physical with them. We saw a great example of that in last year’s Super Bowl, where the Seattle Seahawks beat them up all night and embarrassed them in front of the entire world.
