The long-lasting and surprisingly even rivalry between the New England Patriots and New York Jets is set to rehash itself in an epic battle featured in Thursday Night Football. New England (4-2) is the clear favorite over New York (1-5), and deservedly so, but the Jets always seemingly find a way to compete in these games no matter what their record indicates. The series record currently stands at 56-53-1, slightly in favor of the Patriots.

Prior to Julian Edelman, a man named Wes Welker constantly torched the Jets no matter who was covering him. Welker was since let go, paving the way for Edelman to step into that role. Edelman has done an outstanding job thus far in filling Welker's spot, making this matchup between him and the inexperienced Darrin Walls absolutely terrifying. Walls has underperformed numerous times this season, so this matchup could determine the outcome itself.

New England's major downfall this season has undoubtedly been protecting Tom Brady from opposing defensive linemen. Never has Brady been knocked down, rushed or sacked such a substantial number of times in his career, so this matchup between Nate Solder and by far the Jets' best defensive player will be key if New York plans on slowing Brady down.

Perhaps the most talked about quarterback this season is Geno Smith for all of the wrong reasons. As expected, Smith's game has been far from impressive as he's thrown seven interceptions to his six touchdown passes in addition to five fumbles. Not only does he turn the ball over at a rapid rate, but he's so wildly inaccurate that it's shocking sometimes to think that he is a starting QB in the NFL. To beat the Patriots, he'll have to be perfect.

Historically, Tom Brady's competitiveness has allowed him to beat down on the Jets in embarrassing fashion. Although he no longer possesses the weapons he once had, I do not expect this matchup to be unlike any other in the past. Brady always seems to excel when facing off against the Jets, and the depleted secondary will likely play into his favor. Collectively through six games, the jets' secondary has allotted a total of one interception.

Darrelle Revis has faced off against his former team, the New York Jets, already when he suited up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. However, this will be the very first time he faces the Jets in their arch rival's uniform, which should be an emotional reunion for both sides. There's no way Revis has forgotten the Jets' refusal to extend his contract, so expect him to match up on the Jets' best receiver Eric Decker and wreak havoc.
