Jacksonville Jaguars Should Make Denard Robinson No. 1 RB For Rest of Season

It was finally Denard Robinson‘s time to shine for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The man once dubbed as an ‘offensive weapon’ was the Jags’ feature running back in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns. He maximized his opportunity.

Robinson ran for a career-high 127 yards on 22 carries, nearly matching his output coming into the game (160 yards). The former college quarterback also found the end zone for the first time in his pro career.

For a team that just notched its first win of the season, it’s now become a why not situation with Robinson. Why not keep feeding him the rock and see what he can do in the second half of the season? The Toby Gerhart No. 1 back experiment has proven to be a failure thus far, and Storm Johnson is certainly not an every-down back.

Robinson has one of the main things you can’t coach — speed. The dude is just flat out quick, and whether you were a fan of his quarterbacking in college or not, there’s little debate about his ability to make plays with his feet.

Jacksonville will need to set up a regular thunder-and-lightning rotation once Gerhart returns, because it’s hard to imagine Robinson holding up week after week if he carries the ball 22 times per game. But no matter who the Jaguars pair with the speedster, it’s clear at this point who the feature back should be.

What else do the Jags have to lose? They might as well see if the former Michigan gunslinger is really capable of contributing each week in the NFL.
