The second chapter in Michael Sam‘s NFL career has come to a close.

The first openly gay player in league history is now a free agent and can sign with any other practice squad. It’s likely that some team will pick him up, but his NFL future keeps getting bleaker with each release. Is Sam failing to make an impact because he’s just not that good on the field? Or are his preference off the field getting in the way of a fair shot to make it in the NFL?
