Detroit Lions Should Strongly Consider Trading Ndamukong Suh

Lions Should Trade Suh

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

This season is going pretty well for Detroit Lions. Sitting on top of the NFC North at 5-2, things seem to be clicking for this team even without the best wideout in the game, Calvin Johnson.

A large part of this team’s success has been the defense. Ranked fifth overall (fourth against the run 12th against the pass) the defense has shown itself to be more than capable as the offense slugs along for the time being. Although it is doing well, this defense is getting really lacking production from its star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

What this means that it’s a perfect time to trade him and get something in return. The most obvious reason to trade Suh at this point is his production. Sure, he’s thought of as an amazing, do-everything sort of defensive tackle, but that really hasn’t been the case this year. Suh has 20 tackles, 3.5 sacks and no passes defended. To be frank, those numbers are not fantastic, and for a guy like Suh who has shown he can play on such a high level, he should be embarrassed with his play so far this year.

This very well might be the case however, as Suh has already has done everything but outright claim he won’t be back in Detroit next year. If that is the case, the only possible explanation for his poor performance this season is that he’s shutting himself down in order protect himself from injury.

If that is true, the Lions have to deal him as quickly as possible. They can’t let an opportunity like this to slip away from them and get nothing in return. Detroit has invested too much and put up with too much of his childish antics to come away with nothing for him. If they do let Suh walk, it will be an absolute travesty.
