The running back position has certainly had some turnover this season in terms of the top guys, for one reason or another. Things are starting to settle down on the field in regards to that now, meaning we can gage where backs stand among one another. In that light, here are the week 8 running back power rankings.

15. Jerick McKinnon

It seems that McKinnon is going to be the guy in Minnesota now. Given that the two times that he’s received more than 15 carries this season he’s gone for over 100 yards rushing and the fact that he’s a receiving threat, he’s definitely a threat to make some noise.

14. Branden Oliver

Since getting the job three weeks ago due to injuries, Oliver has two 100-yard rushing games, two scores on the ground, and a 15-carry, 67-yard game in a weird game against the Chiefs last week. The Chargers are going to give their backs work and Oliver has performed quite well when given the opportunity.

13. Chris Ivory

For some reason the Jets don’t seem to want to exercise their best offensive weapon in Chris Ivory. Averaging 4.9 yards per carry for a bleeding offense, it’d be crazy if the Jets don’t start to give him the rock more often.

12. Eddie Lacy

Lacy has looked much better running the ball as of late, appearing to not be Trent Richardson 2.0. James Starks is still going to get work in this offense as well, but if Lacy continues this upward trend, he could very well break into the top 10.

11. Andre Ellington

Ellington’s yards per carry aren’t going to wow anyone this season, but he’s still a big-play threat and is involved heavily in the passing game. There’s still some lingering injuries, but Ellington is still a reliable playmaker.

10. Giovani Bernard

Bernard looked awful in week 7 against the Colts, but that was largely just bad work by the Bengals and their coaching staff. He’s nursing some injuries from that game, but you can’t deny his talent and the fact that he’s still working on a nice year.

9. Marshawn Lynch

Lynch hasn’t been Beast Mode too often thus far in the season and the workload has been wildly inconsistent. It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on him going forward, but it’s also unwise to give up on a back with his talent too soon.

8. Ahmad Bradshaw

Bradshaw is still splitting carries in Indy, but he’s also been finding his way into the endzone as a receiver. He’s clearly the most talented back and the sooner that the Colts realized this, the better.

7. LeSean McCoy

Though this season hasn’t gone even close to ideally for Shady, McCoy’s offensive line is finally starting to get healthy. He’s finally going to be able to not get gang-tackled in the backfield, which always makes him a dangerous player out of the backfield.

6. Lamar Miller

Now that he’s comfortably the number one guy in Miami, Miller has been a threat as a ball-carrier and pass-catcher. We’ve still yet to see a monster game from him, but his solid performances are enough to inspire plenty of confidence.

5. Justin Forsett

The Ravens are making the curious choice to not give Forsett a ton of carries despite the fact that he’s been a monster when he gets the ball. Even with that, though, the chance that they could give him more consistent work is enough to land him in the top 5.

4. Arian Foster

People are still sleeping on Foster to a certain degree, despite the fact that he keeps on finding the endzone and putting up 100s in the box score. He’s the most reliable part of the Texans offense and it’s not remotely close.

3. Le'Veon Bell

Bell has been one of the most consistent performers at the position this season. While the rest of the Steelers have been hit-or-miss, Bell and Antonio Brown have been their workhorses that can get the job done at almost any time.

2. Matt Forte

Forte is coming on really strong right now, even as the rest of the Bears offense is hitting a road block. He’s rushing the ball well, is one of the league-leaders in receptions, and has been constantly getting Chicago on the scoreboard.

He’s on pace for over 2,000 yards rushing, he’s got 100 yards in every game this season, he’s playing for a 6-1 Cowboys team; DeMarco Murray is the monster of monsters in the NFL right now.
