Detroit Lions Getting Healthy Calvin Johnson After Bye Will Be Enormous Boost

Calvin Johnson warming up for Detroit Lions

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Calvin Johnson could miss another game for the Detroit Lions, but it might not hurt the team to sit him for one more week. It would be great for Johnson to get a few weeks of practice in before getting back to game action. Think of the possibilities. The Lions could very easily come out of their bye week with a record of 6-2 and a healthy Megatron.

This scenario is of course the ideal situation for the Lions coming off of a bye. The Atlanta Falcons sit at 2-5, and they are a long shot to win against the Lions in London. The Falcons’ pass rush has not successfull, and Matthew Stafford is a quarterback who is very dangerous when he is not under pressure. The Falcons’ offense should never be underestimated, but they face a terrific Lions’ defense.

The Lions coming out of their bye week with Johnson healthy would be a headache for their division foes. The Chicago Bears still have to play the Lions’ No. 1 defense twice, and they are going to have a tough time of it if the Lions come in healthy. The Green Bay Packers host the Lions for the season finale, and in all likelihood that game could decide the fate of the NFC North.

A slew of Lions’ injuries cast a shadow of doubt on their season, but they have withstood the early tests that they have been issued. Johnson isn’t even the only injured Lion set to return to full health. Reggie Bush, Theo Riddick and Kyle Van Noy have all endured injuries early on in the season, but they will all be ready for game action soon.

The Lions sit at 5-2. If they escape London with a win, then they could be one of the toughest teams in the NFL. We all know how well the Seattle Seahawks did when they had the top ranked defense. I’m not saying the Lions are bound for the Super Bowl, but they are definitely a playoff caliber team. Look at all the Lions have accomplished so far this season, and they did almost all of it without Johnson. When the Lions are healthy again, the rest of the NFL better look out.
