This Sunday the Seattle Seahawks (3-3) take on the Carolina Panthers (3-3-1), which, oddly enough, will be the third straight year these two teams meet in the regular season. Seattle and Carolina were two dominant teams last season, but they are both in completely different territory less than a season later. Coming out with a victory in Week 8 is vital for both organizations.
The Hawks are coming off a loss to the St. Louis Rams, but it took two great trick plays on special teams for the Rams to pull off the stunner. Seattle actually dominated St. Louis in total yards, 463-272. I wouldn’t expect the kind of gutsy play calling to happen, let alone work, against Seattle again this season. The Seahawks need to clean up their mistakes, but they should be able to stick with the formula they got back to last week and find success behind Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch.
Like Seattle, Carolina is struggling; however, they still claim the top spot in the very disappointing NFC South. At 3-3-1, the Panthers have a division to defend. The Panthers’ defense has fallen even harder than Seattle’s, and their ground game has been abysmal. The return of oft-injured Jonathan Stewart should help, plus Cam Newton is always a big play threat with his legs.
Seattle is going to outgain Carolina on Sunday, no question. While both defenses have underperformed, I like the Seahawks’ defense over the Panthers. Wilson has been on fire, and he will lead his team to victory on the road over the Panthers.
Prediction: Seattle 34, Carolina 17
