NFL Houston Texans

Ryan Fitzpatrick Will Be X-Factor For Houston Texans in Week 8

Fitzpatrick Texans

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans are fighting for their lives when it comes to earning an NFL Playoff berth. At 3–4, the Texans have all but lost the AFC South to the Indianapolis Colts and must start winning now or risk falling out of the hunt for a Wild Card berth as well. With struggling AFC South team the Tennessee Titans up next for Houston, this would be an extremely inopportune time to lose a game they are expected to win.

Queue the Texans’ obvious weak link, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is one of the most interception prone quarterbacks in the history of the NFL and already has seven interceptions on just eight touchdowns this season. He’s not a terrible quarterback, but tries to do too much at times and throws the ball into bad spots. Fitzpatrick must take care of the football or the Texans could legitimately lose to the Titans.

Arian Foster is this team’s workhorse offensive player, but with his tendency to fumble the football and Fitzpatrick’s tendency to throw interceptions, this game could be a lot closer than many realize. The Titans’ offense is struggling heavily, but Tennessee’s defense has proven that they are extremely dangerous. The numbers fail to show it, but Tennessee’s defense has kept them in games.

So, if the Texans are to get back on track to an NFL Playoff berth, they must get a big win against the Titans. Watch Fitzpatrick against his old team in this one, because a few of his trademark mistakes could give the Titans and their rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger enough momentum to pull off an upset.
