The way things are looking right now, it’s a great possibility that the Chicago Bears will finish their season with a 6-10 record. At the halfway point of the NFL season, the Bears are entering their bye week with a disappointing 3-5 record. All three of Chicago’s wins have come on the road, while going winless at home (0-3).

If head coach Marc Trestman and the rest of the Bears don’t answer some critical questions this coming week, then I see this team winning only three more games. The Minnesota Vikings currently have an identical 3-5 record and shouldn’t present any problems for the Bears in Weeks 11 and 17. The one team that should be an easier opponent is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-6), who will battle against Chicago in Week 12. As for the other five games, it’s not looking too good.

The Bears will come off of their bye week facing the rival Green Bay Packers on the road. The Packers already beat Chicago in Week 4, and recent history shows that Green Bay has owned the Bears over the past several years. It was against Chicago this season that the Packers started a four-game winning streak. After their loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 8, Green Bay just might use the Bears as a launching pad once again.

Chicago will also have to encounter the Detroit Lions in Weeks 13 and 16. The Lions did beat the Bears twice last season, and with their much-improved offense, they could be even more difficult to handle. Another season sweep by Detroit is highly possible.

The other two games that could be disastrous for Chicago are against the Dallas Cowboys (Week 14) and the Saints (Week 15). As we saw against the New England Patriots, quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski destroyed the Bears’ defense. The Tony Romo-Jason Witten and Drew Brees-Jimmy Graham quarterback-tight end duos are highly capable of doing the exact same thing for the Cowboys and the Saints respectively.

Now let me make one thing clear. If the Bears make the appropriate adjustments during their bye week, then there is a good chance that they can make a run for the NFC North title and a spot in the postseason. It’s a good thing that five of their six divisional games were scheduled on the back-end of the season. However, if things keep heading in the same direction, then at season’s end, Chicago will be 6-10 at best.
