As expected, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will be unable to make the start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8. Instead, backup quarterback Colt McCoy will continue his progress from last week under center.

Griffin not being able to play should come as no surprise considering almost no one believed he would be ready to play on Monday Night Football. With that said, the fact that he was listed as questionable at one point over the weekend certainly gave fans hope. Unfortunately, it appears the former first-round draft pick will not be ready to suit up until Week 10, although there is hope that he will play against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.

The bigger news might be that the Redskins have decided to go with McCoy against a red-hot Cowboys team. Despite quarterback Kirk Cousins showing signs of promise at times this season, multiple horrendous performances has forced Washington to place him third on the depth chart. More specifically, his struggle in the second half of games has put the Redskins in a difficult position. The final straw came last week against the Tennessee Titans when Cousins committed two turnovers in the first half, including an interception.

McCoy entered the contest, tossed a 70-yard touchdown and led Washington to its first victory since Week 2. That was all the coaching staff needed to see to know that he is their man going forward until Griffin is healthy enough to return. If McCoy can lead Washington to a win over Dallas, he may get the start even when Griffin is cleared to play.
