New England Patriots Pose Greater Threat To Denver Broncos Than Previously Thought

Just four short weeks ago, Bostonians were burying the New England Patriots. The national media were declaring the end of the Patriots’ winning era — proclaiming Tom Brady had finally fallen from grace – Bill Belichick had lost his touch and another Super Bowl win was absolutely out of the question. Since then, the Patriots have won four in a row and have played exceptionally well while doing so.

Sunday, the Patriots will face their toughest opponent yet: Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. A month ago, this game would have been in the bag for Denver, but with the New England offense beginning to take form and the defense remaining solid, this game may not be as easy a win as the Broncos may have hoped.

Perhaps surprising to many, the Patriots actually own the better offense, statistically, while the Denver defense has been nearly impossible to penetrate during the month of October. The opposing sides, combined with New England’s exceptional special teams and field-goal unit, set up yet another storybook matchup, featuring Brady and Manning.

Unfortunately for both teams, statistics only go so far. If history tells us anything, weather is a definitive factor when these two teams come to play, in addition to luck. With snow in the forecast this weekend in the Boston area, Denver may have a chance to win in one of the toughest stadiums in the NFL. Last season, the Broncos had seemingly defeated the Patriots during their regular season meeting at Gillette Stadium, but New England made the most unlikely of comebacks and was able to defeat Denver as the clock ticked down to zero.

There is no doubt in my mind that Sunday’s game will feature some dramatic moments, but which team wins this All-Star matchup is still up for debate.
