Andre Holmes Will Be X-Factor For Oakland Raiders In Week 9
The Oakland Raiders might not have a win yet in 2014, but there’s no doubt that there is some good, young talent on the roster, especially in the passing game. Quarterback Derek Carr has been a pleasant surprise for the team this season, playing well despite the team’s record. That said, going into Week 9, Carr isn’t the Raiders’ X-factor — one of his receivers is. Andre Holmes is the Raiders’ X-factor this week, and he could have a huge impact on how well the Raiders’ offense plays.
Just two weeks ago, Holmes had a huge two-touchdown performance against a tough San Diego Chargers’ secondary, convincing some that he was the Raiders’ next great receiver. While Holmes has calmed down considerably since that outburst against the Chargers, it’s clear he has the talent to be a consistent threat in the passing game. Whether or not Holmes becomes an elite receiver is impossible to predict, but what we do know is that in the right situation, Holmes can thrive.
What’s very nice about Holmes’ situation is that he has an opportunity to grow along with his young quarterback. As one of Carr’s favorite targets, Holmes should continue to improve as Carr gets more and more comfortable in Oakland’s offense. If Carr and Holmes have such great chemistry through just eight weeks of action, it will be exciting to see what they can do together in the coming years.
Overall, Holmes is the Raiders’ wild card this week. The team likely won’t win a tough matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, but if Holmes plays well, there is a chance that Oakland can stay competitive with Seattle. Holmes gives the Raiders plenty of reason to stay optimistic going into Week 9.
