When discussing potential NFL MVPs, names like Peyton Manning and DeMarco Murray are probably the first ones to be brought up. But one player who cannot be ignored is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

When Luck was drafted No. 1 overall in 2012, he immediately turned heads. Luck helped turn the struggling Colts around by bringing the franchise from a 2-14 record the previous year to a 11-5 mark. Since then, the Colts have been one of the top teams in the AFC South.

This year, Luck is well on his way to dominating his records. The 25-year-old has 346 passing attempts this season and has connected with 64.8 percent of his throws. Luck also has 22 touchdown passes. Last year, the quarterback had a total of 23.

Sure, Manning might be considered the best quarterback in the league right now, but he only has 252 passing attempts this season. Manning is currently tied with Luck for 22 touchdown passes, and when it comes to rushing statistics, Luck blows Manning out of the water.

But fancy statistics aren’t what delivers an MVP award to a player. By definition, an MVP award is “an honor typically bestowed upon the best-performing player or players on a specific team, in an entire league, or for a particular contest or series of contests.”

At the beginning of the season, the Colts weren’t performing so hot. Luck has been able to lead his team to a 5-3 record, despite a shifty offense as well as an unsatisfactory effort from the team’s defense. The Colts are performing like Super Bowl contenders now, but that could hurt Luck’s chances at winning MVP.

Either way, Luck is one of the wisest players in the game right now, and if he continues to dominate, he could very well take home the MVP award this season.
