For over two months, Ray McDonald's future as a member of the San Francisco 49ers was more insecure than a pimply-faced teenager going through puberty. Today, the Santa Clara District Attorney's office stated that it will likely not file domestic violence charges against McDonald, and here are five things we learned throughout the entire saga.

After seeing what has transpired with the careers of Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice, McDonald must be counting his lucky stars. Even with bruises on his fiance's neck at the time of his arrest, the district attorney is stating that they do not have enough evidence to proceed with formal charges.

In other news, there is no truth to the rumor that McDonald will be the star of a hit new series called How to Get Away with Domestic Violence.

McDonald has started in every game for the 49ers this season and only has 12 solo tackles, zero sacks and one stuff to show for it. Against the Denver Broncos, a game in which the defense got plenty of reps in a 42-17 blowout loss, McDonald recorded nothing but zeros in every statistical category.

But don't be mad; it's not like he earned $ 201,936.52 for playing that game. Oh wait, never mind.

The 49ers wanted due process to take its course, and now that it has, the team's brass looks good.

But it should be noted that the 49ers had no idea it would work out this way, and if McDonald got charged, would they send out the following tweet:

"That awkward moment when you realize you should've suspended a player, but didn't and now player has been charged with domestic violence. #Oops."

No one but McDonald and his fiance know what really transpired on the night of Aug. 31, but we do know that whatever happened was severe enough a situation for the fiance to call the cops. They arrived and found bruises on her neck, which were reportedly the result of McDonald choking her. Did I mention that the fiance is pregnant?

Why on earth is she still with him? You know the answer.

McDonald's current contract runs through the 2015 season, and next year he'll earn over $ 6.3 million while costing the 49ers $ 6,475,985 against the cap. As displayed in slide No. 5, he's not worth that kind of money; and when you factor in the amount of money the 49ers would save on the cap if they released McDonald -- over $ 1.5 million -- it's hard to imagine the team not releasing him next offseason.
