Mark Sanchez is back, ladies and gentlemen. Now playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Sanchez entered the game in the second quarter versus the Houston Texans following a Nick Foles shoulder injury.

Foles left the game and will not return after having his non-throwing shoulder driven into the turf on a Whitney Mercilus sack. While Foles has not had a year up on par with his historic 2013 campaign, he is still a quality starter-level quarterback and an integral part of Chip Kelly’s complex offense. The 2012 third-round pick out of Arizona has led the Eagles to a 5-2 start and into strong playoff positioning as the halfway point in the NFL season comes and goes.

Should Foles miss extended time, Philadelphia could be in serious trouble in the NFC East. Sanchez did have some encouraging preseason performances this year, but has not showed anything in recent seasons to give Eagles fans confidence that he can be counted on to lead the team.

The New York Jets moved on from Sanchez after drafting Geno Smith in the second round of the 2013 draft. After not playing since 2012, a season which saw Sanchez accumulate 13 touchdowns, 18 interceptions, and 18 fumbles, the former USC Trojan has become somewhat of a joke in the NFL.

All in all, the Eagles need Foles healthy. Without a healthy Foles to lead the offense, Sanchez will struggle to guide the Eagles to the NFC East crown and into the playoffs.
