A couple of weeks ago the safe bet was that Adrian Peterson would not play another down in 2014. After graphic photos of whip marks on his son hit the internet and he was essentially booted off the Minnesota Vikings, football was the least of his worries. But now that he’s plead guilty to a lesser charge and is done with court, all the pressure has shifted to the NFL. While the league seems to be in no hurry to move the AP case along, AP is.
Here’s what his attorney Rusty Hardin told PFT on Wednesday:
“It takes only an airplane trip to do it. I’m hoping that can be done quickly and I’m hoping the NFL is receptive to it and agrees to it and get this issue off the front page, because it’s time for him to go back and play football.”
Peterson is indeed eyeing a return to the field in Week 11 against the Chicago Bears, the next time the Vikings take the field.
It’s still unclear if the Vikings will want him back, and you can bet that they won’t utter a peep until the NFL makes a ruling. If the NFL is smart, it won’t wait too long to make a call on AP. No matter what the ruling is, it just needs to be done in a timely fashion so everyone involved can move forward. All of the facts are on the table, so there’s really no excuse for a slow decision at this point.
