The reality of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez holding up his promise to visit Geno’s Steaks and Pat’s King of Steaks after the 45-21 blowout win against the Carolina Panthers was slim to none. But, even on the eve of his 28th birthday, the backup signal caller gave Philly fans exactly what they wanted.
“We’re out here waiting for Mark Sanchez,” Eagles fan Joshua Molyneux said, according to ABC 6 Action News in Philadelphia.
“I don’t care if he’s going to Geno’s or Pat’s,” fan Paul LaCroix chimed in. “Get him down here.”
Sanchez showed up in his SUV after the game to greet fans and get a cheesesteak from both Geno’s Steaks and Pat’s King of Steaks, two famous cheesesteak eateries in South Philadelphia. To the surprise of no one, fans went crazy to see him. In fact, Sanchez barely got out of his vehicle before a fan offered him his cheese fries. Sanchez graciously accepted by diving in.
The former first-round draft pick had not eaten a cheesesteak since arriving in Philadelphia. The promise stemmed from him telling ESPN’s Jon Gruden that if he could help lead the team to victory over the Panthers on Monday Night Football, then he would take part in the city’s tradition.
Even though some people may look at it as a way for him to bask in the glory after being run out of New York, the truth is Sanchez did something great for the fans hours after accomplishing an awesome feat for the city. I have never been a big Sanchez fan, but the decision to show up and eat a cheesesteak with some fans gave me a new respect for him.
