Coming off a complete demolition of the Chicago Bears last week, the Green Bay Packers will now welcome the Philadelphia Eagles to Lambeau Field in a battle of NFC Super Bowl favorites.
Aaron Rodgers and his trio of outstanding receivers have been nearly unstoppable this season, and after Jordy Nelson‘s 152-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Bears, I would expect him to receive the bulk of the attention from the Eagles secondary. Bradley Fletcher will most likely line up opposite of Nelson with safety help over the top.
That’s where Randall Cobb comes in.
Cobb has been one of the best slot receivers in the NFL this season, and he is among league leaders in receiving touchdowns with 10, and the Eagles’ defense has been suspect so far in 2014, giving up over 250 yards per game through the air. Cobb will probably draw the assignment of Brandon Boykin, who is the Eagles’ best cover corner in the slot and one of the best cover corners in the game. Cobb owns the size advantage, but Boykin is the one cornerback on the Eagles’ roster who may be able to stick with Cobb’s speed and quickness in the middle of the field. While the tight ends continue to get more involved every week, they still can’t be trusted to carry the load on offense.

Also, with DeMeco Ryans out for the season, it will be vital for the Packers to take advantage of the backup middle linebacker Casey Matthews. He may share the same last name as his brother Clay Matthews, but he certainly isn’t the same player. The middle of the field should be wide open for Rodgers to attack, and it will be up to Cobb on how effective the Green Bay offense will be.
There has only been one game this season where Cobb hasn’t scored a touchdown, and has put up some unbelievable numbers since Week 4. Expect Rodgers to target Cobb early and often.
