Winning The Turnover Battle Is Key To Seattle Seahawks’ Week 11 Win

Winning on the road is one of the hardest things to do in any sport, but particularly in the NFL. The visiting team often has trouble communicating on offense because of crowd noise, which can lead to pre-snap penalties and busted plays. This is precisely what the Seattle Seahawks will have to battle when they visit the Kansas City Chiefs and their hostile home crowd. The Seahawks are well-known for having a massive home-field advantage behind their legendary “12th Man” fans, but Kansas City’s fans are also notorious for being loud and proud for their Chiefs.

These two teams are both 6-3 and have a similar style of play. It’s one of the more interesting matchups of Week 11, but the Chiefs have a huge advantage by playing host. They are 3-1 at home this season and the only loss at home came in Week 1. That means that Seattle will need to get a few breaks if they want to get a hard-fought road victory in a tough environment. One of the things that Pete Carroll preaches is winning the turnover battle, and that is especially the case in road games like this one.

Neither of these teams have high-octane offenses and both would rather establish a running game before letting the passing game work off of it. If the Seahawks are going to win against the Chiefs they are going to need the ball to roll their way a few times and create some turnovers. Turnovers lead to extra possessions and, more likely than not, good field position for the offense to start drives. That leads to more scoring opportunities, and that is something that Seattle’s offense needs desperately.

While the Seahawks have been unable to replicate last year’s plus-20 turnover differential, they have started to force more takeaways in recent weeks. Seattle’s defense has caused seven turnovers the past three games. In a game that is likely going to be closely contested and could come down to the final few drives, winning the turnover battle should have big implications. If the Seahawks have a decent game and create some turnovers, it’s reasonable to expect them to leave Kansas City with their fourth victory in as many weeks.
