The Kansas City Chiefs have been on quite an impressive run lately. Winners of five straight, they will now travel to take on the winless Oakland Raiders on Thursday night in Week 12. In order to come away victorious, the Chiefs will have to lean on Jamaal Charles on Thursday night.
It’s no secret that the Chiefs have struggled through the air so far this season. They have passed for only 11 touchdowns on the season. Additionally, Alex Smith has yet to pass for 300 yards in a single game this year. The most passing yards he has had in a single game is just 255. Judging by those numbers, it is clear that the Chiefs’ offense is run or bust.
As far as the Raiders are concerned, they have struggled mightily against the run this season. They rank 30th in the entire NFL against opposing running backs. They have allowed nine rushing touchdowns on the year, and they give up an average of 118 rushing yards per game.
Meanwhile, Charles has been on a roll himself lately. In the last four games, he has increased his rushing yard output each week. He is also coming off his best game of the season against the Seattle Seahawks. In that game, he had a whopping 178 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. He did that despite the fact that he was facing the seventh-ranked rush defense in the league.
Charles is on fire as of late and the Raiders’ weaknesses should play into the Chiefs’ strengths in a big way. Despite the fact that the Raiders are playing at home, don’t expect them to secure their first win against the run-happy Chiefs in Week 12.
