The Detroit Lions had their four-game winning streak snapped Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals and their schedule isn’t getting any easier. This week they travel to face the AFC’s best team in the  New England Patriots. The Patriots are 8-2 and have won six straight games. In those six games they have scored an average of 40.5 points. Their offense is on fire, but they meet the top defense in the NFL on Sunday. That defense is led by the best defensive tackle in football, Ndamukong Suh.

Suh will be the key to a Detroit victory this week. He is having arguably his best season as a pro, recording 4.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss thus far in 2014. All of that is coming while he is constantly being double teamed by the opposition. Suh is one of the main reasons why Detroit has the top defense in the NFL.

The key to beating New England is putting pressure on Tom Brady. In the Patriots’ two losses this season, he was sacked a total of seven times. That is the same number of times he has been sacked in their eight wins this season. Suh and the Lions’ front four will look to put pressure on Brady early and often. If New England chooses to double team Suh, like most teams have this season, then the likes of Ezekiel Ansah and George Johnson will need to step up and have big games pressuring Brady.

With New England scoring at such a high rate, the defense for Detroit will need to keep them competitive once again. Detroit’s offense has the talent to score 30-plus points every game, but they can’t seem to get much going this season and have been held to 24 points or less every week since Week 1. Big-time players step up in big-time games, and Suh is most definitely a big-time player. On Sunday he will be the key for Detroit if they want to pull off the upset.
