With the Jets' season looking completely hopeless at 2-8, who can blame the team and fans for looking ahead to the draft. The Jets have several key needs to address in the offseason, including quarterback, cornerback, free safety, guard, and outside linebacker. There is plenty that will change in the next six months, so keep that in mind as we look at the way too early 2015 mock draft for the Jets.

The Jets are currently slated for the 5th pick, behind the Titans and Bucs. That is crucial, because it would likely prevent them from drafting Marcus Mariota without a huge trade. There is so much hate directed at Winston that people forget that he is an elite prospect who can make every throw, has thrown 58 TDs against 22 INTs, and has yet to lose in college. The off the field issues are a major concern, but Winston's talent is worth this pick.

2nd Round: CB Kevin Johnson, Wake Forest

Assuming the Jets take a quarterback in the first round, it is absolutely essential they take a corner in round 2. The position has been a major problem all season since John Idzik passed on fixing it in free agency. I went with Johnson here because he offers the size and physicality at the position the Jets lack. Johnson needs to add strength, but he has great natural cover skills and could provide the lockdown corner the Jets need.

3rd Round: G Jarvis Harrison, Texas A&M

The Jets’ guard situation is a disaster, which is why they have to address it early. Brian Winters struggled again before his injury, while it’s time to move on from Willie Colon. Harrison is a three year starter with plenty of experience against elite opposition. At 6’4”, 325 lbs., he offers great size with above average athleticism, and he's very balanced as a pass and run blocker. Harrison would be an immediate upgrade at guard for the Jets.

4th Round: Percy Harvin Trade

The Jets have to give the Seahawks a 4th round pick if they keep Harvin next season or a 6th rounder if they release him. We're going to work on the assumption that he is going to be on the roster next season, despite the fact that will only happen with a renegotiated contract. A 4th rounder for Harvin looks like a good deal for the Jets, who will be expecting major impact from him next season.

5th Round: FS Jermaine Whitehead, Auburn

The Jets need a safety that can play the deep middle and handle coverage responsibilities. They have two promising young strong safeties in Calvin Pryor and Antonio Allen, which is why I think they'll wait to address the position. However, Whitehead offers the coverage experience and ball skills (3 INTs in six games this year) that the Jets need in the back of the secondary. He could end up being a nice value late in the draft.

6th Round: QB Taylor Heinicke, Old Dominion

Heinicke is one of the most interesting sleeper quarterbacks in this class, and he could be a nice late round project for the Jets to serve as a replacement for Geno Smith as a backup and Winston insurance. Heinick has put up big numbers for ODU the last two seasons (6,914 yards, 58 TDs, 19 INTs), and it will be interesting how he does during the post season evaluation process. He’s still somewhat of an unknown, but remember this name.

7th Round: OLB Davis Tull, Chattanooga

Tull (90) is an under the radar prospect from a quality FCS team in Chattanooga, and he has 37 sacks in 45 career games. At 6’3”, 240 lbs., he projects as an outside linebacker at the next level, and it will be interesting to see if he has the athleticism to play linebacker in the NFL. This is a long shot, but for now consider him an intriguing late round pass rusher.
