The Tennessee Titans (2-8) and the Philadelphia Eagles (7-3) are both looking for bounce-back wins in Week 12 after each team lost last week. This matchup will be played at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, where the Eagles have won their last nine regular season games dating back to last season.
Tennessee and Philadelphia enter the week with relatively new starting quarterbacks leading their respective teams. Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger will be making his fourth start of his career and Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez will be making his third start of the season, after starter Nick Foles injured his shoulder in Week 9.
Considering the talent around him and the fact that he’s just a rookie, Mettenberger has played well for the Titans. He’s thrown for five touchdowns, four interceptions and 758 yards, while posting a quarterback rating of 86.2 so far this season. Sanchez has played one fewer game, but has been slightly better in comparison by throwing for six touchdowns, four interceptions, 880 yards and registering a quarterback rating of 90.3 for Philadelphia.
The Eagles have the clear edge in terms of offensive weapons in this matchup, which includes LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Jeremy Maclin and up-and-coming rookie Jordan Matthews. Philadelphia should have their way with the Titans defense, which is ranked 19th in the NFL in points allowed per game (25) and 21st in yards allowed per game (370.4). McCoy specifically should have a huge game against Tennessee, which is ranked 31st in rushing yards allowed (143.5).
For the Titans to have a chance in this game, they’ll have to move the ball through the air against this Philadelphia defense. They are ranked 28th in passing yards allowed (263) and 30th in passing touchdowns allowed (22). Mettenberger could have the best game of his very young career on Sunday, and he may need to when playing against the high-scoring Eagles offense, which is fourth in points scored per game (29.9).
Philadelphia is clearly the superior team in this matchup and are playing at home on Sunday. They were embarrassed by the Green Bay Packers last week, losing 53-20, and will look to play with an edge and earn some respect back in Week 12. This game is also crucial for Philadelphia in the NFC East race with the Dallas Cowboys, while the Titans don’t have much to play for the rest of this season.
Final Score Prediction: Eagles 34, Titans 20
