5 Teams That Should Consider Signing Adrian Peterson In 2015

Minnesota Vikings Should Release Adrian Peterson After 2014 Season

Given that the Minnesota Vikings don't owe Adrian Peterson any more guaranteed money, he's suspended for the remainder of 2014 and he said he might need a fresh start somewhere else -- the writing is on the wall. AP is more than likely done in Minnesota, although stranger things have happened.

If Peterson is indeed released and free to sign anywhere next season, there are five teams that make a lot of sense for the All-Pro running back.

Peterson is a resident of Houston, and you have to believe he'd consider signing with his hometown team. Yes, the Texans have Arian Foster. But he's frequently hurt. Plus, there's always room for a player of Peterson's caliber.

AP ending up in Houston is unlikely to happen, but it's more likely than a partnership with the majority of NFL teams.

The Colts are likely to be moving on from veteran Ahmad Bradshaw in the offseason, and Trent Richardson hasn't exactly impressed since being dealt to Indy in 2013. You have to believe Peterson will want to sign with a contender, and also with with a team that has a top-tier QB. The Colts and Andrew Luck are all of that.

3. Seattle Seahawks

With Beast Mode's time in Seattle seemingly winding down, the Seahawks could very well be looking for a new feature back in 2015. Who better to replace Lynch than an equally hard-running AP? The Seahawks would give Peterson a shot at the gold, and he'd be surrounded by talent on both sides of the ball.

It's pretty clear that Peterson and Jerry Jones have some sort of interest in working together. But is it realistic to think that AP would join DeMarco Murray in the Cowboys' backfield? Not exactly.

However, Murray is slated to become an UFA this offseason. Jerry could easily pull the trigger on Peterson and let Murray walk out the door. He's done far crazier things.

1. New England Patriots

New England doesn't overpay for players. But if Peterson is willing to play for less, a partnership makes perfect sense. Tom Brady would finally have an elite running back to work with, which would be nightmarish for opposing defenses. Can you imagine trying to account for AP and Gronk on nearly every play?

We'll have to see how this season ends up, but if the Pats fall short of another ring, they could be a little more desperate in 2015.

The Chargers could be in the market for another RB with Ryan Mathews set to become a free agent. And don't rule out Peterson considering a deal with the Broncos. Denver, like AP, will be in win-now mode in 2015.

It seems most likely that AP will play in Texas, or for a contender. There should be plenty of other teams interested in him, but why would he waste his time with a non-contender at 30-years of age and after all he's been through?
