10 NFL Teams You Can Stick a Fork In After Week 12

10 NFL Teams You Can Stick a Fork In After Week 12

Eliminating teams in the NFL at this point in the season can be a tough task because of the amount of parity in the league. It becomes even trickier when an entire division refuses to win any games. However, there are still some teams that you just don't need to bother with anymore. Excluding the Raiders and Jaguars, because they started the year on this list, here are the 10 teams you can stick a fork in.

10. Buffalo Bills

You might not expect a team that improved to 6-5 after a 38-3 win to be on this list, but the Bills' chances at the playoffs are very slim. Even with last night's win, the Bills have four teams between them and the sixth seed. Their poor conference record will makes winning a tiebreak difficult. The schedule isn't kind either; they still have games against Denver, New England and Green Bay. I can't see Kyle Orton winning any of those games.

The Bears have actually won two straight games but find themselves in a similar position as Buffalo. Too many teams ahead of them and a tough upcoming schedule eliminates Chicago from serious contention. That and they have looked just slightly better than terrible despite their two-game winning streak.

Tampa Bay has been bad even by NFC South standards. Somehow they remain just two games back of the division lead, but it isn't realistic for them to leapfrog all three teams ahead of them. At this point, they would likely have to win their last five games of the season to have a chance. I'm willing to bet that has a zero percent chance with Josh McCown at quarterback.

If losing at home to Cincinnati wasn't enough, the Texans found out Ryan Mallett is out for the season. Losing Mallett might not seem like a huge blow, but it likely means it's back to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Houston actually has an easy schedule the rest of the way, but it's impossible to trust who is under center for them.

6. St. Louis Rams

The Rams probably deserve better than the 4-7 record they have, but the facts are the facts. They nearly followed up their stunning win over Denver with a road win over the Chargers before letting it slip away in the second half. St. Louis has the same problem that many teams on this list have -- a bad quarterback. The good news is that the Rams can start figuring that problem out now because this season is over.

The Titans have one of the most nondescript teams in the NFL. Because of that, it is hard to figure out what this team does well. The answer is not much. They have lost five straight games as the rest of the season becomes a showcase to see what Zach Mettenberger can do.

4. Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota has figured out how to keep their games close, but they haven't quite figured out the winning part yet. It's been a strange year for the Vikings with the Adrian Peterson news that left them scrambling. Bridgewater hasn't looked as good as some expected he would, but it might just be that everyone has been spoiled by the recent years rookie quarterbacks.

3. New York Giants

At least they have Odell Beckham Jr. That is the one source of hope for Giants fans as they watch their team plummet in the standings. Once 3-2, the Giants now find themselves riding a six-game losing streak, and completely out of relevance. It will be an interesting offseason for New York as they have big questions to address with Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin.

2. New York Jets

One would have to imagine that this will be the final stretch of games with Rex Ryan as the head coach of the Jets. There isn't even much to look forward to with this team. Nothing on the offensive side of the ball excites you moving forward. It will take a lot of work to get this team turned around and relevant again.

Washington takes losing to the next level. They go out of their way to make sure everyone on the team is alienated. The Robert Griffin III situation has become a mess, and it's hard to imagine his future being with this team. The whole team should adopt Marshawn Lynch's post-game strategy because things get worse every time they talk.
