It’s been a hard year for NFL fans, and not any easier for Carolina Panthers fans. Not only do the Panthers have one of the worst records this year, they also have Greg Hardy, who was found guilty of domestic violence. Despite these setbacks, here are five things the Panthers should be thankful for.

The Panthers are on a five-game losing streak. Luckily, they have time to regroup and address what’s gone wrong during their bye week and before their next game.

They will play the Minnesota Vikings next. The Vikings are also one of the worst teams in the league, so at least the Panthers will have a chance to snap their five-game losing streak. Keep in mind that the Panthers turned their season around last year after they routed the Vikings 35-10.

Cam Newton is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league. Despite what’s clearly been a difficult year, Newton has remained positive. While it would be easy for him to point the finger or complain, he hasn’t. Instead, he’s repeatedly pointed to himself, saying, “As a quarterback, I have to play better. I know that,” which is the sign of a true leader.

Despite an awful 3-7-1 record, the Panthers are only one game behind the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. They are also one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are last in the NFC South.

Hardy is a tremendous athlete, but he has also been convicted of domestic violence, and that is inexcusable. While the Panthers surely miss his defensive abilities, his absence on the field is ultimately a good sign, as it shows that the league is taking steps to punish those who are guilty of committing violence against women.
