The San Diego Chargers won a huge game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in a game between two playoff contending teams. Several key losses throughout the AFC, as well as the matchup later in the day between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs means that the Chargers win should give them a big advantage in their quest for another playoff berth.
The game seemed to be out of the Chargers’ reach when the Ravens went up 10 points late in the fourth quarter, but Philip Rivers proved that he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league by driving the Chargers down for two late touchdowns. He could not have done it without the help of Keenan Allen, who came up with several big catches including a great catch in the end zone, as well as a huge block to set up Eddie Royal’s game-winning touchdown.
Specials teams and mistakes looked like it would cause the Chargers to lose the game, but the defense came up with several big stops to give the offense a chance. The return of a healthy unit has really helped them play better as they continue to gain confidence.
Meanwhile, the Ravens dropped to 7-5, and will now need help if they are to get a playoff berth. They have a slightly easier schedule than the Chargers, although both teams still play in very competitive divisions. This exciting game is sure to be followed by many more as the AFC race is still incredibly close.
