One Moment Was Catalyst For New York Giants’ Week 13 Collapse

Where does one start when the entire team — including the embattled coaching staff — is to blame in a loss of epic proportions? The New York Giants somehow found a way to hand-deliver a game they had in the win column and now their losing streak has reached seven games with no relief in sight.

If they can blow a three-touchdown lead to a one-win team with a rookie quarterback, there are no games that will be considered winnable at this point in what has become a disastrous 3-9 campaign.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were allowed back in this game in the third quarter by scoring a defensive touchdown where a number of mistakes were made. At the 11:13 mark of the third quarter and his team ahead 21-3, Giants quarterback Eli Manning went back to pass and backup tight end Daniel Fells whiffed on a block badly. Manning was hit (the first of four sacks), lost the ball and Fells actually had a chance to recover it at the two-yard-line.

But of course when things are going bad, they go worse and Fells knocked the ball into the end zone. Running back Rashad Jennings had an opportunity to jump on the ball in the end zone, but he tried to avoid the two-point safety and made an attempt to pick it up. Jaguars linebacker J.T. Thomas took advantage of the miscue by pouncing on the loose ball for a gift touchdown and the score became 21-10.

Everyone knows the way the rest of the horror film turned out, but it was this sequence of events that gave the listless Jags some life and changed the momentum of the contest.
