HC Jim Harbaugh will be, without question, the leading head coaching candidate once the offseason hits. The San Francisco 49ers‘ head coach will most likely be traded for draft picks depending on how the rest of this season plays out. As his tenure comes to an end, the possibilities are endless as to where exactly he will end up. Some rumors are even surfacing that he might even end up on the other side of the country as a possible option to take over the desperate New York Jets that need a major makeover.
Would Harbaugh be the answer the Jets are looking for? While many will debate the pros and cons of such a bold move, it actually wouldn’t be the definite answer to fix the struggling Jets. Their problems lie much deeper than the head coaching position as Harbaugh would bring more harm than good.
The truth of the matter is, his traits and in-your-face style of coaching might not sit well with the upper management of the Jets. That in itself is a big reason why the 49ers want to part ways with him because even though he’s respected in the locker room, his personality is rather unstable. He would bring even more negative attention to the Jets in a way that would just add more creative headlines to the mix.
While many believe that any replacement for head coach Rex Ryan would be an instant upgrade, it’s in the best interest of many to be patient and let the interviewing process play out. The Jets shouldn’t just throw away valuable draft picks to land Harbaugh when he wouldn’t be the right person for the job in the long haul.
Harbaugh is a solid head coach, but would thrive somewhere else and will most likely stay in California either with the 49ers or even the Oakland Raiders. It should also be worth mentioning that he likely wouldn’t want to risk his career anyway on a truly dysfunctional franchise that is years away from contending. It’s in the best interest of both parties to just not cross paths when it comes down to it.
