After starting the season at 2-5, the Minnesota Vikings have played above expectations as of late, winning four of their last six games. With upcoming games against the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears, they will look to end the season above .500 since going 10-6 and losing 10-24 to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round just two years ago. Technically they’re eliminated from the playoffs, but with success from rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, they have the ability to play spoiler the next two weeks.

Since coming in as the starter in Week 3, Bridgewater has continued to progress each and every week. However, when he and the Vikings face off against the Lions on Sunday, flashes of his worst performance of the season may come back to haunt him.

When the two teams battled in Week 6, the Vikings failed to execute on offense with their lone points coming on a Blair Walsh field goal. For Bridgewater, it was his worse day as a pro thus far; the line failed to give him any time all day and let up eight sacks. Not only did the pressure from the Lions’ fierce front four create sacks, it also forced Bridgewater into throwing three interceptions.

For the Vikings to have any chance of putting a dent into Detroit’s bid for a playoff birth, Bridgewater and the Vikings’ offensive line needs to play better this time around. That’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility with how well the offense has played the last two weeks. Much like the last two weeks, Bridgewater will need to complete north of 70 percent of his passes and avoid any pressure by getting the ball out quick to his playmakers. That would help immensely if head coach Mike Zimmer would actually put one of the most versatile players in the NFL on the field.

Cordarrelle Patterson, where you at?” — Bridgewater and Vikings fans everywhere.
