Indianapolis Colts Atop AFC South Once Again

The Indianapolis Colts are your AFC South champions one more time, as they defeated the Houston Texans on Sunday to win the title for the second year in a row.

The Colts did this despite another so-so game from Andrew Luck, who only threw for 187 yards and was picked off once. It turns out things didn’t matter, as the Colts overcame Luck’s early pick-six to prevail.

The Colts offense didn’t look too strong, but chalk that up to a solid Houston defense, once again led by J.J. Watt. The Texans were 7-6 coming into this game and could have delayed the Colts’ celebration for one more week with a victory.

What has stabilized the Colts? For starters, it looks like Indianapolis finally has a running game, led by Dan Herron. Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw together equaled little if any yardage. That made Indianapolis turn to the passing game, and it was lucky (no pun intended) that Luck was dependable week after week.

There is no question Indianapolis receivers get the job done, and the Colts have not faltered there all season. If Reggie Wayne has an off day, T.Y. Hilton steps in. If Hilton goes down, Donte Moncrief is able to step in. Luck has no shortage of weapons, and that can carry this team far into the postseason if all goes well.

Right now, the Colts are the third seed in the AFC postseason, but a couple of losses by the Denver Broncos could vault the Colts to the No. 2 spot. It is doubtful they will catch the New England Patriots, but Indianapolis has accomplished one mission this week.
