The New York Jets are on the prowl for a new head coach after Rex Ryan supplied the organization with a disappointing 2-11 record through Week 14. Owner Woody Johnson needs to head the search on his own with people he trusts. Unfortunately, the news of failed general manager John Idzik being involved in the hiring process is about as insane as it gets.

Johnson gave Ryan a vote of confidence in the last game of the season by keeping him on. Clearly, that did not pan out as the team continuously failed to buy into what he was selling.

What many people surrounding the Jets can tell anyone who cares to know is that the blame should not fall solely on Ryan’s shoulders. The reality is Idzik is responsible for the dismal production of the team due to his laughable roster moves in the offseason.

It was Idzik who did not address glaring holes at several positions. It was Idzik who decided to draft Geno Smith and force the Jets to make him the immediate starter. It was Idzik who chose to save money in the offseason instead of revamping a depleted offensive line. It was Idzik who brought in Michael Vick thinking the veteran actually cared more about helping a team win opposed to simply holding a clipboard and collecting a paycheck.

If Johnson does not fire Idzik before he cans Ryan, there will be a collective sigh among Jets fans. Ryan’s firing has been a long time coming, but it is Idzik who essentially drove the final nail in the coffin.

Even though everyone can agree there needs to be a new head coach, whomever the Jets hire will not want to work for Idzik. Therefore, a new head coach-GM tandem needs to be implemented by Johnson in order to give New York a fresh start.
