New York Jets Should Continue Playing To Win And Not Try To Tank

Remember the infamous quote by Herman Edwards, “You play to win the game”? Most fans of the New York Jets will remember that quote since it’s absolutely true. It’s never a good reason to tank the final games of an NFL season in hopes of getting a better draft pick the following year.

Why would so-called “fans” of the Jets want the team to lay down and lose every game to secure someone like Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston? Real fans of the Jets, or any team for that matter, should always root for a victory. Countless generations of fans have enjoyed some great memories with the Jets and also a ton of heartache. To believe that losing on purpose is what needs to happen is flat-out ridiculous.

At the current moment, the Jets are projected to have the No. 6 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. If they go in the path of wanting one of the top quarterbacks available in the draft, they would have to pull off a trade like they did many years ago to land Mark Sanchez. Of course, their priorities could change depending on who is actually running the show.

Major changes are coming to the Jets, nobody will really know what is going to transpire until that time comes. Anything can happen — who knows, maybe Michael Vick or even Geno Smith will even be quarterback options come next year.

The Jets are smart to continue playing to win football games. A draft pick brings no guarantees of immediate success and as much as fans think they know it all, sometimes it’s best to leave team-building in the hands of the professionals who know what they are actually doing.
