The Denver Broncos find themselves in very good position with just two games remaining before the 2014 NFL playoffs start. After clinching the AFC West with a win over the San Diego Chargers in Week 14, the Broncos are currently in position to lock up a first-round playoff bye and even contend for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Broncos (11-3) are currently the AFC‘s second overall seed and trail the New England Patriots (also 11-3) for the AFC’s top seed. The Patriots have the tiebreaker against the Broncos, having beaten them in Week 9. However, if the Broncos finish with a better record, they’ll ensure that the AFC playoffs have to go through Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

With a win in Week 16 on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Broncos will secure a first-round bye. Of course, there’s still a chance the Broncos won’t lock up a first-round bye, but that’s not very likely. The Broncos would have to get jumped by the 10-4 Indianapolis Colts, but with just one win in their remaining two games, Denver will get a bye.

In order to secure home-field advantage, Denver will have to finish with a stronger record that New England, but that doesn’t seem likely at the moment. The Patriots are in a position to win their remaining games as they play against the New York Jets in Week 16 and at home against the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.

At this point, I’d bet that the Broncos will finish with the AFC’s second overall seed and secure a first-round bye.
