The 2014 campaign may not have panned out the way the Oakland Raiders intended, but a new year brings new promise. With about $ 54 million of cap room, the team has an opportunity to continue building through free agency this offseason. Here are five free agents the Raiders should think about signing.

5. Shane Vereen

The addition of Vereen would provide a boost to a Raiders offense that ranks dead last in total yardage. Vereen is an asset both on the ground (career average of 4.2 yards per carry) and receiving (he’s caught 48 passes this season). Letting Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew go and bringing in Vereen to pair up with the promising Latavius Murray would be the best course of action for Oakland.

The Raiders have picked off only seven passes this season; only two of that total have come from cornerbacks. Williams will likely be the top corner on the free-agent market, but he will be worth every dime if he brings the same ball-hawking presence he had in Green Bay to Oakland next season.

No Raider has recorded more than three sacks this season. Nabbing Houston, who’s tied for the league lead with 17.0 sacks, from divisional rival Kansas City would be an enormous move for the Raiders. It’s paramount that the Raiders build around Khalil Mack, and Houston would be a great first step.

2. Rod Streater

After putting together a 60-catch campaign in 2013, Streater has missed every game since Week 3 due to a foot injury. His value has been evident during his absence, as the Raiders’ passing offense ranks in the bottom fourth of the league. Retaining Streater, to go along with James Jones, would provide promising quarterback Derek Carr with a formidable pair of wide receivers for 2015.

1. Charles Woodson

He may be an old man at age 38, but Woodson can still get the job done. The veteran leads the Raiders in tackles (100) and interceptions (three), and he’s also notched the 20th sack of his illustrious career. Unless Woodson decides to retire, there is no reason why the Raiders should not have him next season. Oakland should be able to re-sign him at a bargain price.
