The Kansas City Chiefs lost a lot to free agency prior to the 2014 season, which should land them a few compensatory picks in the 2015 NFL Draft. Coach Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey will have a good opportunity to address the team's weaknesses. Here are the five areas they need to focus on the most.

The Chiefs' pass defense has been playing great this season, but you have to credit some of that to the pass rush. Ron Parker has been inconsistent, and he'll be a free agent after this season. Sean Smith is only under contract through 2015. Rookie Phillip Gaines has shown some potential, but Kansas City will need more than him in the future.

Even if Eric Berry is able to play strong safety again after his Hodgkin Lymphoma diagnosis, he is only signed through 2015. Free safety Husain Abdullah is also under contract for just one more season.

Derrick Johnson, James-Michael Johnson and Joe Mays are only signed through 2015, while Josh Mauga will be a free agent after this season. Kansas City has struggled to stop the run this season with the latter three players in the mix. The Chiefs need more talent, and a plan for the future at this position.

Now we're into the areas that need strong answers immediately. Through 14 games, Antonio Brown (1,498), Julio Jones (1,428) and Demaryius Thomas (1,389) have more receiving yards than all Kansas City wide receivers combined (1,370). Dwayne Bowe is the only wideout who ranks in the Chiefs' top four in receiving yards. His mark of 667 yards is second to tight end Travis Kelce's 747.

After losing three of their best lineman to free agency in 2014, the Chiefs addressed the loss with two sixth-round draft picks and free-agent Jeff Linkenbach. They are paying for it now. Alex Smith is one of the best at navigating the pass rush, yet only two quarterbacks have been sacked more than him thus far. Kansas City needs solid starters at both guard positions and right tackle, plus better depth all around.
