Despite that some people are convinced Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch’s defiance of the media is in some way good, the reality is the unprofessional act is far from adorable. It is actually getting old real fast, and the Seahawks should truly consider doing something about it.

When players are asked questions by the media, they are required to answer as stipulated in their contracts. Technically, there is no rule about being professional. Simply answering the questions is about as far as the contract states most likely because no one actually thought someone would be as big of a jerk as Lynch continues to show.

The NFL must elaborate on what is required of the players during sessions with the media, otherwise what happened after the Seahawks defeated the Arizona Cardinals Sunday night will be a reoccurring theme with Lynch.

That is a transcript of Lynch’s locker room postgame interview with members of the media. He completely ignores the questions by consistently answering with “Thanks for asking” and “Thank you.” At first glance, the politeness is rather refreshing from a guy most of us assumed did not know the definition of the word. But then, it is quickly revealed that he is not being polite at all. In fact, it is just the opposite. He is essentially messing with the livelihood of the media, people who are required to get the reaction of players after a game. Getting a reaction is not possible when the players refuse to cooperate.

For the fans who think Lynch being a rebel is awesome or somehow funny, they clear do not understand the purpose of the postgame interview in the first place. It is a great opportunity for fans to get an inside scoop into a game they just spent three hours watching. It is first-hand reaction to what players just achieved on the field. Even though the media can be annoying at times, the one aspect that is still enjoyable is how they can go behind the scenes and get an in-depth perspective into the game.

Lynch will not get fined by the league because he responded minimally to the questions. Still, there has to be something that can be done to prevent this type of behavior from continuing to happen in the future.
