For one family in need, their Christmas got a heaping helping of merry, courtesy of Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Menelik Watson.

Four-year-old Ava Urrea, who has a heart condition, was recently hosted by the Raiders and treated like royalty. She was named the captain of the day, and received a plethora of gear from the team. On top of all of those goodies, though, Urrea was also given one special gift from Watson that took holiday cheer to a whole new level.

According to Jay Glazer, Watson presented Urrea’s father with his game check for the Raiders’ Week 16 showdown with the Buffalo Bills, which totals to approximately $37,000.

Watson, in his second year with the Raiders, is a former second-round pick out of Florida State whose base salary is $622,948 for 2014. Although parting ways with almost $37,000 is certainly a hit to the wallet, it’s safe to say Watson can foot the bill — especially since his contract included a $1.867 million signing bonus.

Either way, it’s great to see an NFL player spending his money on things that matter. Giving a young girl with health issues a very merry Christmas is much more important than bigger rims on your car or a new sound system.
