The Chicago Bears have a lot of work to do this offseason after a disastrous 2014 campaign. Here are five upcoming free agents the Bears should target, and it is by no coincidence they are all on the defensive side of the football.

Jason Pierre-Paul isn’t the dominant pass-rusher that he used to be, but at only 25 years of age he is still a very capable presence on the defensive line who plays well against the run. If Pierre-Paul can stay consistent, he will be a tremendous upgrade to the Bears’ defensive line.

4. Devin McCourty, FS

The Bears have been looking for answers at safety for years now and finally have the opportunity to add a talented veteran at the position. Devin McCourty has been one of the NFL’s best safeties since coming into the league in 2010, and he has also been very reliable. The only downside to McCourty is that his production has been steadily declining with each passing season.

3. Darrelle Revis, CB

The New England Patriots have a team option on Darrelle Revis, but it will cost them $ 20 million against the cap. It’s unlikely that the Patriots will be willing to take that big of a hit on Revis and will have to restructure his deal if they want to keep him in New England. With Charles Tillman on his way out and Tim Jennings on the decline, Revis would make a great complement and mentor to emerging rookie Kyle Fuller moving forward.

2. Ndamukong Suh, DT

Since being drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2010, Ndamukong Suh has been a nightmare for opposing offenses. In five seasons, Suh has recorded 34 sacks and made the Pro Bowl three times. The Bears are historically known for good defense, but they have been miserable defensively over the past couple of seasons. Suh can re-establish the Bears as a defensive threat and should be near the top of their list of potential targets.

Justin Houston is in his fourth NFL season and has become the NFL’s most underrated defensive player. Houston leads the league in sacks this season and has recorded 43.5 career sacks completely under the radar. The Bears desperately need an upgrade at linebacker, and Houston will only be 26 years old come January. He should be their No. 1 target this offseason.
