Miami Dolphins Deservedly Have Two Pro Bowl Selections In Cameron Wake and Brent Grimes

It’s safe to say that both Cameron Wake and Brent Grimes have been two players who have contributed to the success of the Miami Dolphins in 2014. They were both rightfully awarded for their achievements by being voted into the 2015 Pro Bowl. With one game left to go, both Wake and Grimes have another chance to pad onto their already impressive season statistics.

Wake will be making his fourth trip (third consecutive) to Hawaii. He continues to be one of the best players at his position year-in and year-out. Since signing with the Dolphins in 2009 after going undrafted out of Penn State and a short stint in the CFL, Wake has accumulated 63 total sacks (second in Dolphins history). His 11.5 sacks on the season currently rank ninth in the NFL.

Like Wake, Grimes has been a play-maker on the Dolphins’ defense since his stint in Miami started. After signing on a one-year deal last season, Grimes came to Miami and earned both his way to his second career Pro Bowl and a new contract fresh off a torn achilles. While last year was great (four interceptions, one touchdown), this season has been even better, accumulating five interceptions and one touchdown.

A congratulations is in order for both men representing the franchise in the NFL‘s All-Star game, but there are plenty of players who suited up for the Dolphins this season and also deserve respect throughout the league.

Reshad Jones, for example, may not be as known throughout the league, but he would have been a shoo-in had he not missed the first four games of the season due to suspension. The former fifth-round selection out of Georgia is second on the team in tackles and interceptions, and in my opinion, he’s the unquestioned leader in the secondary.

Flipping to the offensive side of the ball, Ryan Tannehill has been impressive ever since there was talk about him being benched after the 1-2 start. I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s a Pro Bowl snub — because he’s not — but he’s only one season away from being involved in talks as a top-eight quarterback in the league. He currently ranks fifth in completion percentage, 11th in yards, 12th in touchdowns and tied for the eighth-fewest in interceptions thrown.

All in all, it really was just another average year for the Dolphins with their Pro Bowl players standing out. With another year in Bill Lazor‘s system, expect a couple offensive players to make it to the Pro Bowl next season.
