Week 17 Matchup: Carolina Panthers (6-8-1) vs. Atlanta Falcons (6-9)
TV Schedule: Sunday, Dec. 28, 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
Stadium: Georgia Dome
Line: Atlanta (-4)
It all comes down to this. The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons will battle it out in Week 17. The winner will win the NFC South and will clinch a spot in the playoffs.
The Panthers are riding a three-game winning streak into this one, which includes a victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 16. Cam Newton and the rest of the team will have to be on its A game to win this contest, but at least it has all the momentum in the world coming in.
The Falcons should have a good amount of momentum as well. After all, a win would equal a spot in the playoffs, and they just got done beating the New Orleans Saints on the road. Oh yeah, they will also get to play this ballgame in front of their fans.
The last time these two teams met (Week 11), Atlanta managed to get the victory on the road. Therefore, I am sure it is feeling pretty good about its chances of winning. Although either team is capable of winning this do-or-die game, give me Newton and the Panthers.
Although plenty of people won’t like the fact that the NFC South winner has a losing record, a team like the Panthers could do some damage in the playoffs. They are on a three-game winning streak, and are on the verge of pushing that streak to four games — momentum is a very powerful thing come postseason time.
PREDICTION: Panthers 21, Falcons 17
