To the surprise of no one, there are reportedly plenty of members of the Chicago Bears coaching staff who fear for their job security entering Week 17’s contest against the Minnesota Vikings. Even though the stressful environment will reach its peak on Sunday due to the speculation of the revamping of the coaching staff, the coaches are still trying their best to remain calm and focused on the regular season finale.

“I won’t characterize it. I’ve addressed that. When you’re 5-10, things are going to swirl,” head coach Marc Trestman said, according to ESPN. “There’s going to be a lot of noise out there. I’ve tended to focus on my purpose, which is to do the best I can to get the team ready to play. At this point, we’re 5-10. It hasn’t been good enough this time around, no doubt about it. I think everybody, coaches included, we’ve done our best. We’ve done our best all week. We’ll continue to play through it, fight through it for three hours on Sunday and stay focused on the things that we obviously can control, and that’s this football game.”

Trestman is one of a few coaches who have been singled out as most likely gone this week, regardless of what happens in the contest against Minnesota. It would mean general manager Phil Emery, who is somehow expected to keep his job, will be looking for his second head coach in three years. The joke is even though Trestman deserves to be let go, Emery should be right next to him on the job line. In fact, a complete overhaul is necessary in order for the Bears to get on track in 2015.

If Trestman gets fired, other coaches expected to be let go are offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer, defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis, among others. Even if Trestman stays on board next season, which is incredibly doubtful at this point, coaches like Kromer will almost assuredly lose their job.

The drama surrounding Kromer and his offensive players should be enough on its own for him to get fired. But, the defining reason he will not return next year is the realization that an overpriced offense that could have led Chicago to the playoffs completely underperformed in embarrassing fashion. Not to mention, Jay Cutler is not the quarterback to get the job done week in and week out. That is another reason why it is laughable Emery will remain in his current position.

There is nothing more for the Bears to do other than go out and try to defeat the Vikings. A dominating win could be exactly what the coaches need to prove their worth. Though, it is more likely their fates have already been sealed.
