Now that the Jets have decided to fire Rex Ryan, they must find a new coach to lead the rebuild of their organization. The Jets will hire a new GM first, and whoever that is will affect the coaching search. Get the names Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden out of your head now, because there is zero chance that will happen. It’s early in the search, but these are five candidates to be the next head coach of the Jets.

Gase is an interesting candidate, because the 36 year old is considered one of the top young offensive minds in football. However, he is inexperienced and there are questions about whether or not he's just reaping the benefits of Peyton Manning. Gase would be a boom or bust hire, making him somewhat unlikely for the Jets. However, this is definitely a name to keep in mind.

4. Darrell Bevell, Seattle Seahawks Offensive Coordinator

If the Jets decide to go the offensive coordinator route, Bevell would make a lot of sense. He is known as a quarterback guru and has worked with both Brett Favre and Russell Wilson, though he has no head coaching experience. Still, the Seahawks' success makes anyone associated with them a hot commodity, and Bevell could be a strong hire for the Jets.

Surprised? Don’t be. The Jets and Patriots swap coaches and players all the time, so why not do it again? McDaniels has head coaching experience, though it ended badly with the Broncos. However, McDaniels has done a fantastic job running the Patriots' offense for years on both sides of his head coaching stint, and he could be exactly what the Jets need to move forward.

2. Dan Quinn, Seattle Seahawks Defensive Coordinator

Quinn is going to be one of the hottest names out there, as he has constructed one of the best defenses in the NFL with Seahawks. Quinn doesn't have head coaching experience, but that is not likely to deter anyone. One thing that could, however, is a deep playoff run that prevents teams from bringing him in soon. Whether or not he's a real option could depend on how long the Jets are willing to wait.

Bowles is widely considered the top head coaching candidate available, and his blitz heavy style would fit the Jets' personnel well. Bowles is a former Jets' secondary coach who is a Bill Parcells disciple, factors that will play well with Woody Johnson. However, there is a chance the Jets will be dead set on an offensive minded coach, which would knock Bowles out of the running. Still, he is a top candidate and would be a great hire.
